Stephens Inks advertising thermometer. Stephens' Ink was registered as a company name in 1832 by Henry Stephen who had developed a blue black ink that was regarded as superior to others available.[1] Several versions of these advertising thermometers were made in the early part of the 1900s. In 1949 a Stephens' outdoor advertising thermometer featured in the opening and closing sequences of Ealing Studios' famous film comedy Passport to Pimlico[2]
