The Parish Church of St John on Hall Cliffe.
Early Church
The original church of St. John the Evangelist was probably built in the 12th century and possibly rebuilt in the 14th century.[1]
Current Church
The current church was consecrated by the Bishop of Ripon on 29 March 1848. The side aisle of the church is over the footprint of the original church. A porch for the West door was added in 1897.[1]
The church, by Mallinson and Healey (Bradford), is Grade II listed with list number 1133406 at Historic England.
Allotment of Pews
Rev. Joseph Mitton was appointed Incumbent of the Parish Church in 1848 and one of his early acts was to prepare a list of the allotment of pews in the new church.
Church Organ
The present organ built in 1900 with rebuilds in the 1930s and in 1956 occupies the east end of the south aisle.[1]
Lytch Gate
The Lytch Gate was built in 1919 by William Ellis & Sons, Baildon.[2] The gate posts that were removed were later used as the gate posts for Long Close on Ladderbanks Lane.[3]
Church Tower
The tower was built in 1928 by William Ellis & Sons, Baildon,[2] as a memorial for World War I and contains a chime of eight bells added in 1949[1] as a memorial for World War II.[4]
